(Ramsey, MN) — The Connexus Energy Board of Directors has appointed Brian Burandt as the cooperative’s new president and chief executive officer, effective Dec. 8, 2024.

Brian BurandtBurandt’s selection followed a rigorous three-month national search. “Through an extensive process, it became evident to the board that Brian is a leader who aligns with our values, vision and culture,” said Board Chair Fran Bator. “We are confident he will successfully guide Connexus in the years to come.”

With 25 years of experience at Connexus, most recently as vice president of power supply and business development, Burandt is well-known to members and employees alike. His achievements include:

  • Leading the transition from a GRE member to customer with a new power supply structure
  • Creating Connexus’ first 10-year resource plan
  • Leading Minnesota’s first solar + storage project
  • Developing the innovative Peak-Time Rebate program
  • Building Connexus’ data analytics capabilities from the ground up

“The challenges and lessons learned in these successful projects will be paramount in guiding Connexus down a carbon-free path while balancing reliability and affordability,” said Burandt. “I am ready for the challenge and excited to lead Connexus into this next chapter.”

The board also extends gratitude to Burandt and Yan Paul Martinez for serving as interim co-CEOs during the search process. Martinez will continue his role as vice president and chief financial officer.
